LIZARD Banana Yoshimoto 180 pages, fiction from Pocket Books (1993) I dropped a bowl and broke it, which upset me so much that I burst into tears. Then I decided to sit down and read a comic, which made laugh hysterically. I was a total mess." Aren’t we all? Unofficial Stages of Book Editing

These are the stages of book editing, more practical than official, all based on my experiences as a fiction author. I'm much older than I look, so, yeah, decades of real publishing experience. If you ask my nine-year-old daughter, she'll tell you I'm the same age as Meliodas of Seven Deadly Sins. Same size too. Anyway. 1. Lessons from Candy Crush Saga

I have been playing Candy Crush Saga created by King Entertainment for more than a decade now. Initially, I used the Android app on my Samsung tablet, then synced it up on FaceBook and eventually my Galaxy smartphone once the game left the platform. In a nutshell, Candy Crush Saga is a video game, specifically a match-three puzzle similar to the classic Bejeweled. It was released in April 2012 Read More

This is in response to one of the more common questions that bloggers are prompted with: What fictional character do you most identify with? Ever since I read her story in Elektra: Root of Evil, I saw myself in the Marvel Comics character Elektra Natchios. Here is a non-exhaustive list of commonalities, in no particular order: We are the only female child of our parents. (In my case, I Read More

My life is definitely far from perfect, but I do believe it's been an awesome ride thus far. 1. Take care of yourself. Inside and outside. Read More

'Of Blood and Roses' was written for my daughter Arya's 9th birthday, a horror tween romance she wanted, inspired by her favorite series: Card Captor Sakura (anime), All of Us are Dead (Korean zombie series) & Fear Street (R.L. Stine books). Lo & behold, we get a half-breed aswang boy who fights straight out of Assassin's Creed & a magical girl gifted with a powerful mystical rose.

My first collab was in early 2024 with my then-7yo daughter (she turns 10 next month). 'A Girl and her Monster' was launched on her 8th birthday and is about a girl named Rana who goes back to her hometown and joins a new school, where she creates a cardboard monster she calls Shadow Blue. After sunset, Shadow Blue & the other cardboard monsters come to life! But is there a deeper, darker story behind this magic?

For the month of February, I will be featuring a d For the month of February, I will be featuring a different romance book each day for 14 days, with 14 fun, interesting, random things about the book. For our last feature, let's talk about my collection of heart-rending romantic short stories, 'The Way We Fall.'

14 Things about 'The Way We Fall' (Day 14, 14 Days of Valentine)
1. There are 12 stories in the book. Each can be read as a standalone.
2. My favorite story is 'Letters Across Time,' about a woman who finds a letter in an old desk...and gets in touch with the grandson of the original sender (who happens to have a motorcycle)
3. I had the most fun writing 'Wrong Number, Right Love,' an opposites-attract rom-com about a perpetually exhausted PA and a golden retriever future doctor with abs
4. If I had to pick one story for everyone to read, it's 'The Light in the Window,' about two people who meet each other through their apartment windows and fall in love over time
5. All written in 1st person POV, narrated by either the MMC or FMC
6. The most relatable story is probably 'The Train that Didn't Stop,' because everybody had that manic pixie person in their life who got away
7. All of the stories take place in the Philippines, in various cities, but mostly Metro Manila and Iloilo City
8. A lot of the stories deal with the loneliness of urban life, and how a lot of people just want to be seen in the face of all that busyness and isolation
9. The story 'The Boy and the Sky' is an updated version of a short story I wrote in high school, 'Hobo'
10. My favorite MMC is Bobby, the kind, shy chef in 'The Taste of Her Smile'
11. My favorite FMC is Ashley in 'Table for Two,' who dresses in red and treats herself to dinner at a five-star restaurant because she can still 'buy my own damn dinner'
12. My favorite side character is Roque, the hype wingman we all deserve, in 'Days of Flowers'
13. My favorite quote from the book is, 'It was never too late for our kind of love to bloom' (from 'Days of Flowers,' where they are both older)
14. My color scheme for the romance edition is white and gray-black tones, a change from my usual darker palette of book cover colors

My YA short story collection, 'The Sunset Place,' My YA short story collection, 'The Sunset Place,' will be out on 5th March, my 2026 #worldbookday release!

This book is about the moments we do not outgrow—the parent who taught us to prune roses under a merciless sun, the old vendor who made waiting sweeter, the friend who stood in the storm, the grandparents who left behind memories of love.

These are stories of childhood, first love, home, and the quiet ways we learn to let go as time moves us forward.
